CIVIL ENGINEER / Land Surveyor (Entry Level)

Prairie Engineers, P.C. is seeking an Entry-Level Civil Engineer/Land Surveyor to join their team. 

Do you love spending time outdoors?  Are you eager to travel and see the country?  Do you want a job that keeps you active and challenges your mind?  Prairie Engineers is a growing company, looking to add an Entry-Level Civil Engineer/Surveyor to assist with the firm’s hydrographic, topographic, and boundary surveying projects at locations nationwide.  This is a field position that will require extensive travel to locations throughout the U.S. with occasional international travel possible.  This isn’t an easy position; we work long days in sometimes harsh conditions and remote locations.  But if you are looking for a challenge, if you enjoy being a part of a capable and contributing team, and if you enjoy developing solutions to get the job done well, we are the right fit for you!  You must be able and willing to be a highly responsible, capable, and contributing member of our team, able to utilize technology and think on your feet. This position will be a full-time position with paid travel expenses and a per diem allowance for meals, generous benefits and a competitive salary based on qualifications.  This position is available to be filled in our Illinois offices in Columbia, Springfield, Hillsboro, or Peoria, in Keokuk, Iowa, or in Hazelwood, Missouri.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Ability to travel, often on short notice, and work safely in various locations and all types of weather conditions
  • Perform field surveys including hydrographic, topographic, and boundary surveys using state-of-the-art equipment and methods
  • Perform and check office surveys including reduction of field surveys, least squared and compass rule computations, and volume and area calculations
  • Conduct boundary research and prepare plats, plans, and legal boundary descriptions using CADD software
  • Maintain focus on project delivery and customer service with attention to detail and meeting deadlines
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Surveying, Civil Engineering, or a related science field from an ABET Accredited University
  • A valid driver’s license and a clean driving record
  • Willingness to travel within the United States to meet project requirements
  • Good verbal and written communications skills
  • Project a professional, positive attitude with a strong work ethic
  • Current licensure as a Surveyor Intern or Engineer Intern or ability to obtain within 6 months

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Experience:

  • Past work experience completing field surveys
  • CADD/GIS experience
