ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENTIST

Prairie Engineers, P.C. is seeking an Environmental Scientist to join their team. 

Prairie Engineers provides professional engineering, geospatial, and environmental science services to deliver sustainable infrastructure and maintain our natural and built environment.  We are a woman-owned firm with offices in Columbia, Hillsboro, Peoria, and Springfield, Illinois and Hazelwood, Missouri.  The firm provides services to local, state, and federal governments, utilities, industries, and private businesses.  Prairie Engineers is a growing company, looking to add an Environmental Scientist to their team to assist primarily in the field with native restoration.  This position will be a full time position with benefits and a competitive salary based on qualifications.  This position is available to be filled in our Columbia or Hazelwood office locations. 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Invasive species removal involving both manual removal and herbicide treatments, Native species planting and restoration activities including controlled fire
  • Frequent out of town travel with overnight stays to meet project requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree in Environmental or Biological Science
  • Ability to identify herbaceous and woody plant species
  • Good verbal and written communications skills
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to work outdoors for extended periods of time in a variety of weather conditions
  • Project a professional, positive attitude with a strong work ethic

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Experience:

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite of software including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Familiarity with ArcGIS Products
  • Two or more years of experience working as an environmental scientist in the field of natural resources
  • Basic wildland firefighter training (S-130, S-190) and experience conducting prescribed burns
  • Pesticide applicator license and experience with handling chemicals and herbicide/pesticide application
