Prairie Engineers, P.C. is seeking an IT Support Technician to join our team. 

Prairie Engineers is a full services engineering, geospatial, and environmental science firm with a goal of delivering sustainable infrastructure solutions and maintaining our natural and built environment.  We are a woman-owned firm with offices in Columbia, Hillsboro, Peoria, and Springfield, Illinois and Hazelwood, Missouri.  The firm provides services to federal, state, and local governments, utilities, industries, and private businesses. 

Prairie Engineers is a growing company looking to add a competent IT Support Technician to provide fast and useful technical assistance on computer systems and applications including answering queries on technical issues and offer advice to solve them.  Candidate must have good technical knowledge and be able to communicate effectively to understand the problem and explain its solution.  This is a permanent full-time position with benefits and a competitive salary based upon previous experience.  This position is available to be filled in our Columbia, Hillsboro, Springfield, or Peoria, Illinois office locations.

Job functions may include:

  • Serve as the first point of contact for employees seeking hardware and application technical assistance over the phone or email
  • Provide basic network management and user support
  • Configure and install computer workstations
  • Assist with Windows server maintenance and troubleshooting
  • Perform troubleshooting through diagnostic techniques and pertinent questions
  • Direct unresolved issues to the next level of support personnel
  • Record events and problems and their resolution in logs
  • Identify and suggest possible improvements on procedures
  • Travel between multiple Illinois and Missouri office locations for on-site troubleshooting and maintenance

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate’s Degree in IT, Computer Science, or related field.
  • An Illinois driver’s license and a clean driving record
  • Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle and willingness to travel to meet project requirements
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a project team
  • Ability to interact professionally with clients and other team members
  • Energetic with a positive can-do attitude
  • Maintain focus on project delivery and customer service with attention to detail and meeting deadlines

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Experience:

  • 2 years’ experience in IT support
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Proficient in English
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve technical issues with limited supervision
  • Tech savvy with working knowledge of office automation products, databases, network systems, and cyber security
  • Good understanding of Windows-based computer systems and Windows server operating systems
  • Knowledge and experience with network infrastructure equipment such as modems, routers, and switches
