Prairie Engineers environmental scientists assisted in the development of a Habitat Conservation Plan of the Indiana bat (Myotis sodalis), gray bat (Myotis grisescens), Short-eared Owl (Asio flammeus), Upland Sandpiper (Bartramia longicauda), Northern Harrier (Circus cyaneus), and Loggerhead Shrike (Lanius ludovicianus) at two locations in Illinois for the construction of two wind powered turbines. One of the turbines is located within five miles of historic bat hibernacula of gray and Indiana bats. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service did not pursue an Incidental Take Agreement for the federally listed species; however, the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) did require an ITA for the species of concern. As part of the agreement, a multi-year study was implemented at the tower locations to document the incidence of mortality of various avian and bat species.
