Prairie Engineers completed the design and construction administration for thirteen blocks of streetscape improvements in downtown Litchfield, Illinois. This project was the second and final phase of the downtown streetscape project covering the entire downtown area.
The project consisted of complete removal of the sidewalks in the 13 block downtown area and replacement with new plain and brick stamped sidewalks, greenspace, and lighting. The new construction was built in accordance with ADA and PROWAG accessibility guidelines. In some cases, the new construction necessitated the reconstruction of storm sewer inlets and pipes, curb and gutter replacement, and pavement patching. Prairie Engineers met individually with each affected property owner to discuss the project and completed basement inspections to determine locations of former coal chutes or access points that may have extended under the public right-of-way. A Public Information Meeting was conducted during the design phase.
Construction was completed in 2014. Prairie Engineers completed documentation of contract quantities, prepared pay estimates, negotiated change orders, coordinated materials testing, and completed construction observation to ensure compliance with construction documents.
